FAQ
Platform and Policy Questions
How much does it cost to sign up?
There is a small background check fee but there are no monthly fees. You are only charged when customers acquired on Rover book and pay for services.
What are Rover's fees?
We will collect a 20% service fee on the amount the pet owner agrees to pay you in a booking. This fee goes toward marketing to pet parents to help you continually acquire new clients, site and app maintenance, 24/7 Rover Support for you and your clients, and much more to support your business.
How do I get paid for bookings?
When you create your profile, you'll be prompted to set up a payment method through our third party payment processor, Stripe.
What is required of me to sign up?
You'll be asked for basic information which includes photos, training credentials and methodology, rates and training bundles you offer, and information about you as a trainer.
Do I need to be credentialed?
Yes. Rover's marketplace is for credentialed dog trainers. Be sure to provide this information at signup so that your profile includes your education and certifications.
Can I say no to a customer request from Rover?
Yes, you choose which clients you want to book. Also, you can always ask the customer for more information before making your decision. Either way, we simply ask that you respond to all booking requests so the dog parent knows if they should reach out to other trainers.
Can I stop if I want?
Yes, if Rover isn’t working for your business you can close your profile at any time.
Can trainers with different training styles, like balanced training, join the platform?
At this time, we are only accepting positive reinforcement methodology trainers.
What happens if someone lists themselves as a trainer without proper qualifications?
We review each profile that comes in, and we have certified trainers on staff who assess applicants at every step
Certification and Qualifications
What certifications are accepted for dog trainers on the platform?
We have an internally maintained list of approved certifications. We evaluate each certification based on the curriculum and the methodologies taught. Some example certifications we accept are: CCPDT, Animal Behavior College, CATCH Academy, Karen Pryor, ISCDT, and Academy of Pet Careers.
Are trainers required to have a specific certification to be listed?
We will evaluate certifications as they come in.
How are certifications verified to ensure they are legitimate?
We ask for proof of credentials via email after someone submits their profile. If a certification directory is available online, we also cross-reference that individual with the official organization website.
What experience level is required to become a trainer on the platform?
We ask that our trainers have credentials and practice positive methodology. We do not have a minimum experience requirement.
Vetting Process

How are trainers vetted before being allowed on the platform?

We take a multi-step approach: (1) We ask for proof of credentials via email. (2) We ask for information related to the training tools used. (3) Every trainer must pass a background check, just like all the other providers on our platform.
What steps are taken to ensure trainers meet industry standards?
In Dog Training, there is no industry standard. Rover is working to ensure that our trainers are both certified and practice positive reinforcement. Additionally, once on the platform, they will be reviewed and rated by their clients. Rover will track reviews and ensure our trainers maintain their commitment to positive reinforcement and high customer satisfaction.
How are trainers vetted before being allowed on the platform?
We ask that our trainers have credentials and practice positive methodology. We do not have a minimum experience requirement.
Will trainers be required to follow local regulations for dog training businesses?
Trainers are expected to operate via their standard business practices, according to their local laws and regulations.
General Feedback and Sentiments
Why is this new feature being introduced?
We believe everyone deserves the unconditional love of a pet—and at Rover, our mission is to make it easier to experience that love. We want to make it easier for the pet parents on the platform to find trainers because we believe training makes the relationship between pets and pet owners a stronger one. Training can help keep dogs in homes, and some studies have also shown that training can boost adoption rates for dogs in shelters.
Will this affect existing services or options available to pet owners?
Not at all, in fact, more trained dogs on the platform is a great outcome for all providers.
